Christopherson (b.1943) served in the 20th Engineer Battalion during the Vietnam War from July 1969 to July 1970. He grew up on a farm near Valders (Wisconsin). After the war, he worked for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and eventually settled in Middleton (Wisconsin). Kurtz (b.1940) served with the 1st Infantry Division during the Vietnam War. As a platoon leader, Kurtz experienced combat as well as the problems associated with a leadership role.
